Where to get insured for paragliding and/or paramotoring?

Risky sports like paragliding and paramotoring are often misunderstood by insurers, making them hesitant to offer suitable coverage. However, our partner since 2003, VERSPIEREN/SAAM, specializes in this field, and we highly recommend them.

Do I need to get a license?

In France, the term "license" can either mean a certificate (mandatory for ULM) or membership in a federation that acts as an association grouping clubs of practitioners.

For paragliding and paramotoring, several federations exist, but none require mandatory membership.
Here are their missions:

  • Promotion and Development: Awareness, education, and training to grow the discipline.
  • Safety: Establishing training and technical events to improve safety.
  • Training and Education: Developing programs for instructors and pilots.
  • Aviation Regulations: Rules for the use of airspaces.
  • Competitions: Organization, rules, and championship titles.
  • Site Preservation: Efforts to keep flying sites accessible and sustainable.
  • Communication: Newsletters, safety alerts, and knowledge sharing.
  • Insurance: Although not insurers themselves, they offer insurance solutions tailored to members' needs.

In summary: Since the actions to achieve these goals are often insufficient, join a federation if you are convinced it brings value to your sport.
